10,000 Americans will turn 80 today. Another 10,000 tomorrow. A Seniors Housing Business analysis indicates that this incoming generation has greater care needs than any before them.

What the Data Reveals About Today’s Senior Housing Prospects

According to the cited ProMatura study, independent living prospects compared to 20 years prior were older, wealthier, frailer, and more likely to use an assistive device. Compared to prospects in 2001, today’s seniors are:

50% more likely to have fallen in the last six months
76% more likely to move into senior living after age 85
33% more likely to have been hospitalized overnight
128% more likely to use a walker
100% more likely to use a wheelchair
